Sarcoptic mange is commonly known as scabies and is caused by an external parasite that burrows deep into the skin. It is vary contagious. Demodectic mange is caused by a microscopic mite called Demodex canis. These mites naturally live inside hair follicles and only cause problems in some dogs. Demodectic mange is not contagious.
